General Gardel suffers apoplexy and his regiment joins the insurgents

On 25 February 1843, while on this habitation, General Gardel, on his way from Jacmel to fight the insurrection of the South, suffered an attack of apoplexy. His regiment went over to the insurgents, whose ranks it swelled.
