Journalist and poet Jacques Roche is kidnapped in Nazon

Jacques Roche was born at Cavaillon in 1961. He was a poet, a diseur, and culture editor of the daily Le Matin. On 10 July 2005 armed men took him from his car in the Nazon district of Port-au-Prince. The kidnappers demanded 250,000 dollars and threatened to kill him, then lowered the ransom. On the morning of 14 July he was found at Delmas 4, stripped to the waist, handcuffed to a chair, both arms broken, covered in torture marks and bullet wounds. He was 44, seven days short of his birthday.
