Jourdain and Gérin raise the workshops and seize Petit Trou
Haitian
History. Jourdain and Gérin, hommes de couleur, had their home at Petit Trou. On 30 August 1791 they raised their brothers and the plantation work gangs, and seized the bourg from the French. Roy de Kermeler, a white colonist, was in command there. Jourdain, who had suffered cruel persecutions at Kermeler’s hands before 1789, kept his men from killing him. He entered his house alone and presented him with a sword, declaring that he had come to avenge himself in single combat for the affronts he had received from him, and had no intention of assassinating him. Jourdain had him given burial.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PETIT TROU de NIPPES ou des BARADERES.
