Josaphat-Robert Large is born at Jérémie

Josaphat-Robert Large was born at Jérémie on 15 November 1942. He wrote poetry, fiction and art criticism in French and in Kreyòl. He left Haiti in late 1963 after being arrested during a student strike against François Duvalier, and became a founding member of the exile theatre company La Troupe de Théâtre Kouidor in New York. His novel Les terres entourées de larmes won the Prix littéraire des Caraïbes in 2003. He died in New York on 28 October 2017.
