Antoine Chanlatte, born in Port-au-Prince, dies a French general in Paris

Antoine Chanlatte died in Paris on 16 November 1815. Born in Port-au-Prince in 1753, he entered the Saint-Domingue militia as a fusilier in 1776. A free man of colour, he sided with the commissioners Sonthonax and Polverel at Cap-Français and was promoted general of brigade on 24 October 1795. He was elected deputy for Saint-Domingue to the Conseil des Cinq-Cents but never took his seat. He returned to the colony with Hédouville in 1798.
