Insurgent bands camp around the Cap; whites massacre blacks and yellows

Haitian

On 18 October 1802 the insurgent bands of Petit Noël Prière, assisted by those of Pétion and of Clerveaux, came to camp around the Cap. Christophe came to join them. The whites of the town then gave themselves up to the most dreadful carnage, killing and massacring Blacks and jaunes, while twelve hundred men of the 6th colonial regiment were drowned in the roadstead. Leclerc at once ordered the concentration at the Cap of all the troops quartered to the west and east of the town.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Cap-haïtien (le).
