Haiti wins the CONCACAF championship at home and qualifies for the World Cup

On 18 December 1973 Haiti finished the CONCACAF Championship as champion, at the Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince, where the whole tournament had been played since 29 November. Haiti won four of five matches; Emmanuel Sanon scored four of its eight goals. It lost the closing match to Mexico but had already secured the title. This edition doubled as World Cup qualification, and Haiti went to West Germany the next summer, its only World Cup.
