Fernand Hibbert dies at fifty-five

Fernand Hibbert died in Haiti on 19 December 1928, aged fifty-five. Born at Miragoâne on 30 October 1873, he was schooled at Saint-Martial and then in Paris, and taught history and French literature at the Lycée Pétion from 1904 to 1912. His novels Séna, Les Thazar, Romulus and Le Manuscrit de mon ami first ran as newspaper serials. He campaigned against the American occupation through the Ligue de la jeunesse haïtienne. He was Haiti’s minister in Havana and Secretary of State for Public Instruction.
