English capture the fort of L’Acul de Léogane
Haitian
On 19 February 1794, the English marched against the Acul of Léogane with two cannon of 5 and a half inches and two pieces of 4. Seconded by the marquis de Montalambert, by Colonel Spencer and by Captain Vincent, they took the fort from the republicans after a fight of three hours. A young black republican, whose history has unfortunately not preserved his name, blew up the powder magazine of the fort, which killed 60 English soldiers.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Acul (l’).
