Élie Lescot is born at Saint-Louis-du-Nord

Élie Lescot was born at Saint-Louis-du-Nord on 9 December 1883. He was schooled at Cap-Haïtien and then in Port-au-Prince, and served as Haiti’s minister to the Dominican Republic and to Washington before taking the presidency on 15 May 1941. He suspended the constitution in 1942 and took unlimited executive powers. Student strikes and street revolt drove him out in January 1946. He died on 20 October 1974.
