Dessalines marches on Petit Trou after taking Anse-à-Veau
Haitian
On the day after the taking of the Anse-à-Veau by Dessalines, 9 July 1800, this general marched on Petit Trou. A space of 5 lieues separates these two towns. Having come within a quarter of a lieue of Petit Trou, he divided his arrival into two columns, which entered the place. He met there horsemen and gunners feeding the fire that had been set to the houses. At the first volley they received, they abandoned the bourg. It was in vain that Dessalines had cannon fired on the numerous boats loaded with families that were making for the open sea to go to Corail and Jérémie. He could not sink them.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PETIT TROU de NIPPES ou des BARADERES.
