Dessalines enters San Juan on the march to Santo Domingo
Haitian
On 26 February 1805 the emperor Dessalines, marching against Santo Domingo, entered San Juan at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. His army entered it without obstacle. The whole population had withdrawn toward the source of the Yaque, almost at the centre of the island. The emperor entrusted the command of this bourg to squadron leader Isaac Borel, one of his aides-de-camp, and continued toward Azua on the 25th at 6 o’clock in the morning.
Rouzier tells this under the entry SAN JUAN de MAGUANA ou SAINT JEAN.
