Dessalines’s troops defeat Sérapio on the road to Azua
Haitian
On 27 February 1805, the troops of the emperor Dessalines, marching from San Juan against Santo Domingo, spent the night at a ford of the Yaque river and resumed their march on the 28th, at 5 o’clock in the morning, upon Azua, after having defeated Sérapio, a Black officer, who believed he could bar their passage on the right bank. The rout of the Hispano-French was complete and Sérapio lost his life. General Brave penetrated into Santiago.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Grand Yaque (le) ou Yaque du Nord.
