Death sentences carried out at Saint-Marc and Gonaïves

Haitian

St. Marc, after having been the frontier town of Christophe’s kingdom, was the capital of the insurrection of the Cacos of the North, from 1868-1876 against Salnave, with Nissage Saget as President of the State of the North. A naval combat took place off the coast of St.Marc on 12 September 1869 between a ship of the Cacos revolution and another of President Salnave. The latter left the scene of the combat heavily damaged. On 5 May 1882, of 28 persons condemned to death at St.-Marc, 14 were shot at St.-Marc and 14 at the Gonaives the next day.

Rouzier tells this under the entry ST.-MARC.
