Death of Marie-Soeurette Mathieu, Haitian novelist and poet of Quebec

Marie-Soeurette Mathieu was born in Port-au-Prince on 10 August 1949. She left Haiti in 1970 for the United States and then Quebec, studied sociology and education at UQAM, and taught. She published the novel L’amour en exil in 2000 and Un pas vers la matrice in 2009, along with the poetry collections Ardemee and Lueurs. She joined the Union des ecrivaines et des ecrivains quebecois in 1991 and served on the board of the Societe litteraire de Laval. She was also a painter. She died at Laval on 20 July 2023.
