Contract signed in Paris creating the Banque Nationale d’Haiti
Haitian
On 30 July 1880 the Haitian finance minister Charles Laforesterie signed a concession contract in Paris with the Societe generale de credit industriel et commercial. It created the Banque Nationale d’Haiti. The new bank was a French joint-stock company with ten million francs of capital, and it took over the service of the Haitian treasury. Haiti’s money was now handled in Paris by Frenchmen, on top of the independence indemnity Haiti was still paying France. It opened in a private house on the rue Bonne Foi.
