Christophe has himself named king as Henry I at Fort-Royal

Haitian

When the French had established the present town, in 1725, they likewise named it Bahiaha. It was in 1731 that it was given the name of Fort-Dauphin, for which that of Fort-Liberté was substituted from the time of the founding of the French Republic. Destined to change its name several times, this town was again called Fort-Royal by Henry Christophe. It was there that he had himself named king on 26 March 1811, under the name of Henry I, at a pleasure party where a cake with a bean in it had been cut. It had finally to resume the name it now bears, after the fall of Christophe’s kingdom.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Fort-Liberté.
