Boisrond-Canal dies, three times president and never once finished

Haitian

Pierre Theoma Boisrond-Canal died in Port-au-Prince, aged seventy-two. Born at Leogane on 12 June 1832, he held the presidency three times and never completed a term: 19 July 1876 to 17 July 1879, then 1 September to 16 December 1888, then 26 May to 21 December 1902. Each time he handed power back rather than fight for it. The government of Nord Alexis gave him a state funeral. Three years later his younger brother Louis-Auguste sat on the commission that ran the country when Nord Alexis himself was chased out.
