Blanchelande sends three columns against the Platons
The governor de Blanchelande went in person to the foot of the Platons and presented himself as a peacemaker to the Blacks, who refused to lay down their arms. On 6 August Blanchelande directed three columns of troops against them. He set up his headquarters opposite the foot of the Platons, near the camp of the insurgents, where Armand was. The Blacks, 10,000 in number, occupied an expanse of 6 lieues; they had only 900 guns, with pikes and stones as weapons. In the afternoon the insurgents assailed from the front and on the flanks the first column of the whites, commanded by Deschet. He had to beat a retreat under a hail of bullets and stones, and crossed in disorder the highest peak of the Platons, the famous defile bordered by precipices, named the Dompte-Mulatres. His division perished there almost entirely; the prisoners were slaughtered.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PLATONS (les).
