Birth of Paul Eugene Magloire, the colonel they called Kanson Fe

Paul Eugene Magloire was born at Quartier-Morin, in the commune of Cap-Haitien, on 19 July 1907, son of General Eugene Francois Magloire and Marie-Philomene Mathieu. He joined the army on 1 September 1930, ran the National Penitentiary, took a law degree, and became police chief of Port-au-Prince in 1944. He sat on the juntas that pushed out Elie Lescot in 1946 and Dumarsais Estime in 1950, then took the presidency himself and held it from 1950 to 1956. They called him Kanson Fe, Iron Pants. A general strike forced him out in December 1956. He died 12 July 2001.
