Birth of Georges Anglade, geographer of Haiti and teller of lodyans

Georges Anglade was born in Port-au-Prince on 18 July 1944. He fought the Duvaliers and they exiled him twice, in 1974 and again in 1991. In Quebec he helped found the geography department at UQAM and mapped Haiti as nobody had mapped it before, land, hunger, and who owned what. In the 1990s he turned to lodyans, the Haitian short tale, and published book after book of them. He advised Rene Preval and served as minister of public works. He died in Port-au-Prince on 12 January 2010, crushed with his wife in the earthquake.
