Death of Othello Bayard, who wrote the music of Haiti Cherie
Haitian
Louis Achille Othello Bayard was born at Les Cayes on 2 September 1885. He was a violinist, a poet and a composer. He set to music the words that became Haiti Cherie, the song every Haitian in the diaspora knows by heart and cannot get through without stopping. He died in the same town where he was born, Les Cayes, on 19 July 1971. Four months earlier Francois Duvalier had died and handed the country to his son.
