Azor dies after collapsing at the Saut-d’Eau pilgrimage

Lenord Fortune, known to everybody as Azor, was born 19 June 1965. He was the drummer and voice of Racine Mapou de Azor, the group that carried rasin music and the rhythms of Vodou out of the lakou and onto the world’s stages. He fell ill while playing at the feast of Saut-d’Eau, the pilgrimage of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and died on 16 July 2011 at Bernard Mevs hospital in Port-au-Prince of complications of diabetes and hypertension. He was 46. Haiti gave him a state funeral and President Michel Martelly decorated him after his death.
