The Dominican country returns to Spanish rule

Haitian

On 18 March 1861, under the presidency of General Pedro Santana, the country fell back under the power of Spain. On 16 August 1863 a formidable insurrection broke out against the Spaniards in the mountains of Capotille; it provoked a vote of the Spanish Cortes ordering the evacuation of the country; on 11 July 1865 the marquis de la Gandara left Santo-Domingo and embarked with the Spanish troops.

Rouzier tells this under the entry HAÏTI: Council of State.
