Michel-Rolph Trouillot is born, and will teach the world how history gets silenced

Michel-Rolph Trouillot was born in Port-au-Prince on 26 November 1949, son of Ernst Trouillot and nephew of Henock. He left Haiti in 1968 among the student activists fleeing Duvalier. In 1977 he published Ti difé boulé sou istwa Ayiti, the first non-fiction book written in Haitian Kreyòl. Haiti: State Against Nation followed in 1990 and Silencing the Past in 1995. He took the Frantz Fanon Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 and died in Chicago on 5 July 2012.
