1767-Jan.-14: A specialized educational institution in France advertised for boarders aged eight to eighteen at an annual cost of 816 livres. The school operated under the oversight of the War Office, providing quarterly reports on student progress and aptitude for military or state service. A primary objective of the curriculum was training engineers for the creation of the Map of France under the direction of M. de Cassiny. Once qualified, these students were presented to the Academy of Sciences for professional employment.
