1767-Jan.-07: A report was published detailing the arrival of German settlers in Pensacola and the massive recruitment of Scottish Highlanders for a new project in East Florida. A British baronet traveled to Scotland to enlist three hundred mountain dwellers to settle on Crown-granted lands. The developer planned to provide these settlers with three thousand enslaved Africans, whom he deemed “indispensably necessary” to support the enterprise. This account highlights the expansion of the racial slavery model into newly acquired British territories in North America.
