Si cependant l'importance et le prix de la main d'œuvre étaient tels que la valeur de la matière employée fût de beaucoup au-dessous, l'industrie serait alors reconnue la partie principale, et l'ouvrier aurait le droit de retenir la chose confectionnée, en payant le prix de la matière à qui elle appartient.
Life lesson:
When the craftsman's labor far exceeds the value of the raw material, the work of human hands prevails — the artisan keeps the finished thing, paying only for the material. Skill, here, is the greater property.
Notes:
Exception to Art. 291: when labor value greatly exceeds material value, labor (industrie) is deemed the principal part. Worker retains the finished product and compensates the material owner. Recognizes the value of skilled labor and craftsmanship.
