Work began on an iron bridge over the Grande Rivière of Léogane

Haitian

MOMANCE. A wandering river that passes over this habitation, or Grande Rivière de Léogane, comes from the same sheet of water, the same common network, as the Gosseline, river of Jacmel. It often causes damage in the plain to the riverside habitations. As soon as he came to power, in 1888, President Légitime thought of having a metal bridge thrown across it by the Banque Nationale d’Haiti. (See: Grande Rivière de Léogane.) The works were begun on 1 March 1889; the first stroke of the pick was given by Emile Riobé, owner of the habitation Lassale, in the presence of the engineers L. Laforestrie and J. Durocher. This bridge was completed in 1891 under Hyppolyte.

Rouzier tells this under the entry MOMANCE.
