Whites and freedmen swear to keep the treaty on the Damiens habitation
Haitian
On Sunday 23 October 1791, deputations of whites and affranchis went to the Damiens habitation, where the mayor of Port-Républicain, citizen Lerembourg, a white colonist, read them the concordat of the 19th, signed on the Goureau habitation. On both sides they swore to uphold the treaty. Pinchinat was the president of the commissioners of the men of color, and Caradeux the elder, president of those of the whites. It was agreed that men of color would be admitted to all the assemblies, in perfect equality with the whites, even in the colonial assembly. The memory of Ogé and Chavanne was rehabilitated.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Damiens ou Damier.
