Vincent Louis sails to burn French establishments at La Tortue

Haitian

Carré-Rouge. Habitation situated in the commune of Saint-Louis du Nord, and landing place of that habitation. It was from there that, on the order of Capoix, Commandant Vincent Louis set out on 7 January 1803 on rafts to go and burn the establishments of the French at la Tortue. After seizing the habitation Labatut, where he freed a great number of indigènes who were held there in chains, Vincent Louis sent two of his rafts back to Carré-Rouge, where the indigenous prisoners whom he had freed landed, together with the wife of Colonel Labatut, an old white woman who had been surprised in the great house of her habitation.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Carré-Rouge.
