French attack Fort Ça Ira; Pétion drives part of their column into the marshes
Haitian
PETIT. Habitation in the plain of Léogane. In December 1802 the independents of Léogane had established there an entrenched camp that Pétion had fortified. On the 22nd the French came in force to attack Fort Ca Ira, which Sanglaou abandoned to them. The indigènes in their flight passed beyond Camp Petit, but Pétion came to renew the fight and overthrew part of the French column into the marshes of the Petit habitation, where it perished under gunfire. After this affair Geffrard left for the South, and Cangé entrenched himself at Camp Petit.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PETIT.
