Villate arrests Governor Laveaux
Haitian
On 20 March 1796 Villate had the governor Laveaux arrested and imprisoned at the Cap, and he was deposed. The next day, before the threats of Toussaint-Louverture, the municipality had the governor set at liberty, and Villate withdrew to the fort of la Martelière.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Cap-haïtien (le).
