Verification commission finds 628,000 untraceable votes and demands a new election

Haitian

On 30 May 2016 the Commission indépendante d’évaluation et de vérification électorale handed its report to provisional president Jocelerme Privert. The commission had audited the ballots from the first round of 25 October 2015. It found 628,000 votes that could not be traced, forty percent of the valid ballots, more than the total credited to the leading candidate. It recommended rerunning the presidential election and revising dozens of rulings from the electoral dispute offices. The official count had given Jovenel Moïse 32.76 percent against 25.29 for Jude Célestin. The election was run again on 20 November 2016.
