Toussaint’s army camps at the Allard habitation

Haitian

On 2 July 1800, the army of Toussaint-Louverture, having seized Aquin, marched on Saint-Louis du Sud, and came to camp on the habitation Allard. Dessalines, the commander in chief, was preparing to occupy the bourg when Toussaint let him know that negotiations were about to be opened with General Rigaud: he suspended his march. On both sides there was weariness of the civil war. The negotiations having failed, Dessalines summoned the bourg to surrender at discretion. The remnants of the legion of Jacmel who occupied it offered no resistance. Gauthier, who still commanded these intrepid soldiers, whose number had been reduced from 1,800 to 150, came to the habitation Allard, where he made his submission.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Allard.
