Toussaint, a prisoner in France, writes to Bonaparte
Haitian
On 20 July 1802 Toussaint Louverture, held prisoner in France after his arrest and deportation from Saint-Domingue, wrote to Bonaparte. He had been taken in June by men who invited him to a parley. He would write again in September, and again from Fort de Joux in October. None of it saved him.
