Timoléon C. Brutus, biographer of Toussaint and Dessalines, is born
Haitian
Timoleon C. Brutus was born on 23 March 1886. He became a minister of the Haitian state and served as foreign minister from 1946 to 1949, but the work that outlived him was written history. In 1945 he published Rancon du genie ou la lecon de Toussaint Louverture. A year later came L’homme d’airain, his study of Jean-Jacques Dessalines, the man of iron. He died on 12 July 1971; his son Edner Brutus carried the same double trade of politics and history.
