The rebels of Miragoâne succumb after nearly a year

Haitian

On 27 March 1883 Boyer Bazelais and about a hundred of his friends, exiled like him at Kingston, seized the town by surprise. The troops sent against them by the government surrounded them there. After a struggle of nearly a year the rebels all perished from hunger, disease, privation and fatigue, and succumbed on 9 January 1884. Boyer Bazelais died there on 27 October 1883. The sick and infirm found at Miragoâne were executed without pity. Some, unable to receive death standing, being too weak, were killed sitting.

Rouzier tells this under the entry MIRAGOANE.
