The enslaved rise in the North
Haitian
On 22 August 1791, at 10 o’clock in the evening, the enslaved rose in revolt against the French and burned everything, thus giving the signal of the insurrection in the North. They placed at their head Jean François, who had Boukman and Flaville for lieutenants.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Acul du Nord (l’).
