The English take Tiburon
On 3 February 1794 the English took Tiburon. This town, armed with 22 pieces of cannon, was defended by Dartiguenave. At daybreak the English ships swept the shore, and the troops commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Spencer landed under the fire of the republicans. They formed in battle order, marched against Dartiguenave and cut him to pieces. Spencer took 150 prisoners and found the arsenal stocked with powder. According to his bulletins he lost only 3 men killed and 11 wounded. General Rigaud came from the Cayes to attack the English on 16 April 1794 with 2 pieces of cannon and 2000 men. At 3 o’clock in the morning he scaled the town, which the Chevalier de Sevré was defending, having under his orders Jean Kina. He was repulsed and left 170 dead around the place. The English lost 28 Europeans and 109 wounded, and 100 men of Jean Kina’s. Rigaud was wounded in this action.
