The English evacuate Jérémie
Haitian
In August 1798 General Rigaud, after several battles, arrived beneath the walls of Jérémie, which he closely blockaded. The English refused to negotiate the surrender with a general who was an implacable enemy of the British Government, and evacuated the town on the 22nd. They set sail for the Môle St. Nicolas, which became the only point where the English flag still flew. Colonel Dartiguenave took possession of Jérémie.
Rouzier tells this under the entry JÉRÉMIE.
