Suffragist Alice Garoute dies four years before Haitian women get the vote

Alice Garoute died in Port-au-Prince on 30 October 1950, aged about seventy-six. Born Alice Thézan in 1874, she campaigned for women’s rights in Haiti from about 1910 until her death. Haitian women would not win the vote until 1950 in principle and 1957 in practice.
