Spanish ship San Ramon enters Fort-Liberté; Candy treats with Aristizabal

Haitian

On 3 February 1794, while the Spaniards were blockading Fort Liberté by land and sea, a coaster named Juan Delmonte won over the commander of the fort. The Spanish ship San Ramon, of 64 guns, entered the harbor without obstacle. Candy negotiated with Admiral Don Gabriel Aristizabal; but the Spaniards soon arrested Candy and sent him to Mexico to work in the mines. Don Joachim de Saso took command of the place.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Fort Labouque.
