Soldiers overthrow Henri Namphy three months after he seized power himself

Non-commissioned officers of the Haitian army overthrew General Henri Namphy in September 1988 and installed General Prosper Avril. Namphy had taken power himself in a coup that June, three months earlier, and the September rising followed the massacre at the church of Saint-Jean-Bosco, where gunmen killed worshippers at Jean-Bertrand Aristide’s mass.
