Soldiers overthrow Henri Namphy three months after he seized power himself
Haitian
Non-commissioned officers of the Haitian army overthrew General Henri Namphy in September 1988 and installed General Prosper Avril. Namphy had taken power himself in a coup that June, three months earlier, and the September rising followed the massacre at the church of Saint-Jean-Bosco, where gunmen killed worshippers at Jean-Bertrand Aristide’s mass. Sources differ on the day: English Wikipedia gives 18 September, Haïti-Référence the 17th. This entry follows the 17th.
