Simone Ovide Duvalier dies in Paris after eleven years of exile

Women

Simone Ovide was born on 13 March 1913 and trained as a nurse. She married Francois Duvalier and stood beside him through fourteen years of terror, then beside her son Jean-Claude through fifteen more. Haitians called her Mama Doc. She left Haiti with the family on 7 February 1986 when the Duvaliers were flown out. She died in Paris on 26 December 1997. The cause was never made public, and no Duvalier was ever tried for anything.
