Salnave executed at Port-au-Prince

It was there that President Salnave and five generals of his retinue, taken prisoner on 8 January 1870 at the Anses-à-Pitre, were handed over by the Dominican General Cabral to the Haitian authorities. Salnave was taken to Port-au-Prince, where he was executed on 15 January, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, on the still smoking ruins of the National Palace. The five generals of his retinue were put to death the morning of the same day at the Croix-des-Bouquets.
