Saint-Macary shows the Belair fort can be taken by assault

Haitian

On 5 June the government troops seized two of the fort’s hillocks, one of which dominates the town; but General Lubérisse-Barthélemy granted a suspension of arms at the request of the consuls. The rebels took advantage of it to rain a hail of projectiles on the government troops. General Fleuriau was wounded there, and had his horse killed under him. General Jules Saint-Macary discovered, on 11 June, in an attack on the fort, that this position was not impregnable, and that it could be taken by assault.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Belair.
