Royalists of Les Cayes seize the fort of the Islet

Haitian

On 14 July 1793, the royalists of the Cayes, in revolt against the authority of the civil commissioner, seized it after having been driven back from the town. General Rigaud gathered the affranchis and attacked Badolet, one of their leaders, at five o’clock in the afternoon. They fought all night, and the next day, at ten o’clock in the morning, the affranchis took the fort of the Islet by storm. Badolet and Mouchet, the two leaders of the rebels, fled to Jérémie. The royalists gathered again and marched against General Rigaud. He sallied out of the fort of the Islet and defeated them near the place des Tanneurs.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Fort de l’Islet.
