Royalists of Les Cayes seize Fort Tourterelle

Haitian

On 14 July 1793, the royalists of the Cayes, in revolt against Delpèche, civil commissioner, and driven out of the town by Harty, commander of the province of the South, seized this fort. General Rigaud gathered all the affranchis and attacked Badolet in the fort at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. They fought all night. The next day, at 10 o’clock in the morning, the affranchis took it by assault. Bidolet and Mouchet, the leaders of the rebels, fled to Jérémie.

Rouzier tells this under the entry TOURTERELLE.
