Romain takes the Cap by surprise and is driven out
Haitian
On 19 February 1803 General Romain took the Cap from the French by surprise and drove them out of it by seizing the fort Belair. But a formidable battery, established by General Thouvenot at the extremity of the Fossette, was suddenly unmasked and spread death in the ranks of the independents, who withdrew under the deadliest grapeshot. The cavalry charged them immediately afterward and drove them from the main road.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Cap-haïtien (le).
